The 'free' in Free Methodist sprang from the growing desire of B.T. Roberts and others to see certain basic freedoms spread in the Church. These included freedom from slavery, freedom from economic discrimination, freedom in worship, and freedom of lay persons to participate in the decision-making of the church. We trace our roots to John Wesley, who believed in a devotion to Christ that is lived out through world-impacting, active holiness. Since its beginning in 1860, the Free Methodist Church has continued to grow around the world through people living out their faith in Jesus Christ.
